AMSTERDAM FOR A DAY
It’s no well hidden secret that there’s not much to see in Osnabrück and its surroundings - anyways I love to call this city home for now. But the one perk that comes with living in Osnabrück is that you luckily hit the jackpot of reaching Amsterdam in only a two and a half hour drive. As we had @eldala and @sheisoutandabout visiting us we couldn’t resist packing our bags to roam the streets of beautiful Amsterdam for one day - and so we did!
The boy and I have been to Amsterdam two times before so we were convinced that we’ve already seen the coolest spots - well, we were definitely wrong. By browsing Mapify we found some cool spots we didn’t knew before and set them on our list for the day. We also found some more places to add to Mapify but more of that later. Mapify is an app where users gather spots they visited which make up to a huge community map with places to explore all around the world. Additionally you can create your next travel with Mapify giving you a guideline with places to visit. It’s simply a travel platform to get inspired and inspire others for their travels. I think the idea stands for itself, doesn’t it? But see yourself.
Besides exploring spots that are listed on Mapify I set myself the goal to find new places in Amsterdam that aren’t already listed. I wanted to hold the balance between getting inspired by others and contributing to the big picture. Maybe we found places you also wanna visit one day? Let’s see!
From the car seat straight to a café seat because long haul car drives are tiring - legit, isn’t it? Originally we wanted to sip a coffee at PLUK but the café was so packed that we strolled the street a little far down and found an even cuter café named Ree7. The waffles with salted caramel were so good and the atmosphere was really comforting.
When you have the most photogenic friends you just have to take advantage of it, don’t you?
THE MOCO MUSEUM
We set our second stop at the Moco Museum which is located at the Art Square right next to the well known Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. I visited both of them and would highly recommend going there. But this time we went to the Moco Museum as we found it on Mapify. After doing some more research on it we decided on giving modern art a go.
At the Moco you can find works of artists like anonymous Banksy, Warhol, Haring, Hirst and Co. In some parts it’s (not even surprisingly) the modern art that I’m not willing to understand but especially the Banksy exhibition is worth seeing. Also the room installations are pretty impressive. However one point of criticism has to be the price that is not reasonable for the amount of artworks and size of the museum.
THE BENCH WHERE HAZEL AND GUS SAT
One of the most heartbreaking and beautiful movies was filmed in Amsterdam - “the fault in our stars”. As fans of the movie we took the opportunity and visited the bench where Hazel and Gus sat when they went to Amsterdam. As heartbreakingly as the movie we had to find out that the original bench has been removed and replaced by a new one. Nonetheless @sheisoutandabout didn’t miss her chance to test the scenery!
After some more roaming and strolling we then found ourselves at this hidden burger heaven named “The Butcher”. There’s actually nothing more to add than: well done.
Last but not least we went to another point that was suggested on Mapify. It’s located at a very busy canal near the central station. We didn’t expect it being so busy as it doesn’t look like it on pictures. But we made the best of it and found a cute little spot to take some shots.
I know that it’s almost impossible to say this but… We paradoxically came to the conclusion that Amsterdam is a crazily unphotogenic city though it is crushingly beautiful in real life. I think one has to visit to get an idea about of the photographic paradox of this city haha.
All in all I hope you liked this little excursion westward. If you want to have a further look at the spots we visited you can find them all here on my Mapify profile as part of the trip “Amsterdam”. And if you’re jumping on that Mapify wagon too hook me up so that I can spy some cool places you’ve uploaded!
